Semana Santa in Braga

Semana Santa in Braga is one of the most important religious events. Not just in Braga but all over Portugal and man other country’s in Europe and even Central and South America. You will be able to experience processions and devote ceremonies. 

During this week there will be man processions. The central figure is Jesus Christ. The parades are held to honor Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection. During these processions, you might be overwhelmed with all the sights and sounds. Because the streets will be filled with Gregorian songs from local choirs. Priests and pastors will walk along with lanterns and incense making it an even more magical and spiritual experience. It is said that over 100,000 people attend these processions, so make sure you get there early to get a good spot.

One of the most impressive sights of this week is on Saturday night. The Cathedral will hold a miss in complete darkness until they will put on the lights. This is an experience you don’t want to miss.
