Event Details

The Festival of Light in Lyon in France will take place every year on the 8th of December. The city of Lyon will shine bright on this day to commemorate the Virgin Mary. Supposedly she saved the city from the plague in the year 1643. The people from Lyon would light candles in their windows to thank the Virgin Mary for sparing them from this deadly disease.

The festival is held ever since and now attracts people from all over the world. They are attracted to the wide variety of activities and sights which will take place for over 4 days. Be prepared to be amazed by the art and shows during this event. You can see artwork made from light installations and astonishing technical and artistic light shows.

Because this festival is a tribute to the Virgin Mary the main focus lies on the Basilica of Fourvière. Right next to this basilica you find the statue of the Virgin Mary overlooking the city. Don’t forget to enjoy some French cuisine while you enjoy the light spectacle, there will be a wide variety of food vendors all through the city.
