Event Details

Easter in Corfu is one of the biggest Easter events in Greece. Even though this event is a big celebration in all of Greece, this one is a bit more special.

You might ask yourself ‘So why is this one special?’. Well, I’ll tell you. In Corfu, they mix the traditions of the Greek-Orthodox church with the celebration of the beginning of spring. For example, from every church on the island, you will hear polyphonic ecclesiastical music. This is a type of local music only known on Corfu.

While you are visiting Easter in Corfu you’ll be able to enjoy live music like opera, classical music, and local music all around the island.

The main event is the celebration of the resurrection of Christ on the Upper Spianada Square. While you are there just before 12 at night you’ll see people holding lit candles. As if this is not impressive enough, there will be fireworks at 12 at night and the philharmonic orchestra will start playing cheerful music. But this is not all. There will be a local diner of fish, meat soup, and wine. And on Sunday morning there will be a traditional brunch.
