Apokries Carnival in Athens is a big celebration right before the period of lent. Greeks will wander the streets while eating, singing, and partying in festive outfits.

The first day of the carnival is on a Thursday which they call ‘Smoke Thursday’or ‘Tsiknopempti’. This day is set 10 days before the beginning of fasting. During the Carnival, there will be parades with colorful and satirical floats. There will be percussion music and traditional costumes

All around the city you will be surrounded by street parades, food, homemade sweets, and music. There will be live concerts at squares and indoor halls all around.

As this isn’t enough, there are many activities for children. Animators and clowns will entertain the kids, while others will get a face painting, or participate in the contest for the best costume. This week-long event has something to offer for everybody and is guaranteed.
