Where is Sitges?
Sitges is a popular beach town, around 35km southwest of Barcelona on the Costa del Garraf in Catalonia. The town is nestled between the Garraf Massif and the Mediterranean Sea, bordering the coastal towns of Castelldefels to the east and Vilanova i la Geltrú to the west. Sitges is conveniently located only 15km from the Barcelona-El Prat airport.
How to get to Sitges?
You can get to Sitges by car, train or bus. There used to be a ferry but it is no longer operating. Sitges has a Rodalies de Catalunya railway station which is served by the R2 Sud line directly from Barcelona. There are also some regional trains that stop here. From the airport, you need to change trains that’s why it’s easier to take the bus. It leaves from Terminal 1 only on platform 7. The company that operates it is Monbus. It’s only one station from the airport to Sitges and the trip takes about 25min to the first stop in Sitges (Parc Can Robert). Quick tip: you can get a T10 transport ticket which includes 10 trips between Sitges and Barcelona or the airport. Monbus has a convenient bus from Sitges also to Barcelona downtown (e.g. Plaça Universitat).
When is the best time to go to Sitges?
Sitges has 300 sunny days per year and can be visited all year around. The best time to visit Sitges however is from April to June, September and October. July and August are great, just more crowded, hot and touristy – like everywhere on the Mediterranean. Winters are usually mild, but you will likely get some rainy days.
What to do in Sitges?
Sitges has 26 beaches, 3 marinas, 5 museums, 1 nature reserve, 1 golf course and over 400 restaurants and shops. There are about 50 events every year. Most people come to visit for the family-friendly beaches, the beach promenade where there is always something going on, the historic downtown and the easy lifestyle with cafés, restaurants, and shops.
Is Sitges family-friendly?
Sitges is very family-friendly – I would even say it’s one of the most perfect Mediterranean villages for children. Safe, not too big, always something going on and friendly people. The beaches are also safe – just take your usual safety precautions. There are some great playgrounds right on the seafront, e.g. next to Restaurant Picnic or on the Eastern edge of Platja de Sant Sebastià.
