Swiss Castle Day

Swiss Castle Day is known in Switzerland as Schweizer Schlössertag. During this day in Oktober, more than 20 Swiss castles will welcome you with open arms.

Switzerland is home to more than 500 castles and fortresses scattered all around the country. Most of them are located on important trading routes to secure passage. Some castles and fortresses are carefully restored and house a museum. Others are mere ruins reminding us of other times.

During Swiss Castle Day around 20 castles will open their doors for visitors of all ages. There is the opportunity to stroll through the corridors and elaborate ballrooms and dining halls. And you might take this opportunity to learn how to be an archer. Or what about some medieval food tasting or dancing?

You can choose between 20 castles all over Switzerland. When you are near Spiez you can visit the 1300-year-old castle on a peninsula in Lake Thun. A visit to this castle will be an exciting experience for young and old. There is a special trail for children and there are regular art exhibitions.
