Event Details

La Tamborrada of San Sebastián is a musical event that takes place every year. The people of the city of San Sebastián will gather in the city to sing their town’s song. Drum bands complete this event by filling the streets with music for the next 24 hours.

The Tamborrada is actually a celebration of the city’s patron Saint Sebastián. The sounds of tambourines, drums, and singing start to fill the streets in the late afternoon of the 19th of January. And exactly at 12 PM, the city’s flag will be raised in the Constitution square.

The event dates back to the year 1836 when it became part of the local carnival. During these festivities, you will see people dressed in historical soldier clothing worn by the local battalions during the Spanish Independence War.

You will find the ‘Tamborrada’ bands all over the city because there are as many as 150 companies. This load but joyfully event will come to an end at midnight on the 20th of January.
